Family Therapy
Families are constantly changing, with new seasons bringing fresh challenges to old solutions. I work with families to build on the strengths they already have, sharpen up the wisdom they've collected, and collaborate in practicing change. My experience with families includes supporting LGBTQ parents and children.
My areas of focus include:
-
Families of adolescents, teens, and young adults struggling with depression or trauma
-
Families impacted by shared trauma
-
Families navigating adoption or foster care
Psychotherapy
The therapy that I practice incorporates elements from the different branches of mental health treatment I have been trained in; including Solution Focused Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Plus. My licensure requires ongoing education, and I am committed to integrating the best evidenced based practices that I have access to into my client’s care.
My Approach
My approach starts with helping foster curiosity about yourself. What are the patterns of behavior, emotion, and relationship that you have learned? Were they taught to you by your family, your culture, your experiences, your natural instincts? Are they helping you move closer to or farther from your goals?
Once we can become curious about ourselves, and practice a degree of mindful awareness that allows us to view our reactions without judgment, we can attend to patterns in our lives. I believe all people have innate strengths and the capacity for change.
I utilize strategies for therapy from Solution Focused, Narrative, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy traditions depending on what seems to connect with any individual person or family. These strategies allow us to set goals together, test new skills or approaches, and learn together how to move forward on your particular path towards growth and healing.
